Aaron's 5th Birthday-A Balloon Party!

We took some pictures of Aaron with his blue balloon and used one of pictures to put on the cake.

Brother Austin helped create this great balloon arch with this kit.  Our new helium tank I got on Craigslist was a great help too.

Ashley and I ready for the munchkins

We had this great dart board where you got to throw your darts at the balloons and a chocolate kiss would come out.  Here Rebecca and Owen are taking their turns with darts.

The kids played some musical chairs to the song of 99 Red Balloons
And we had this movie on the TV.

Aaron got this little air hockey table -here- for his birthday so the kids had fun playing this in between the darts and musical chairs and pinball machine.

Shelly made the delicious chocolate cake and the kids had cupcakes, fruit, nuts and juice.

The balloon artist we hired was amazing and even made hats for the adults. The kids all got to take home their balloons and each got quite a few creations.

A letter to my boy-Age 5

My Dear Aaron,

Today you turn 5. This is the year you learned to ride a big bike-not just a two wheeler-which you learned the summer you were still 3- and I was so proud- but a really big two wheeler bike. You are so fast on it too.

This is the year you learned dance and with ballet came more discipline, grace, flexibility and balance. You had your first recital and did such a beautiful job. You also learned such a good front flip on the trampoline,  got really good and quick at the monkey bars and because more brave in all your activities. Your swimming improved and we spent summer weekends at the mountain or beach playing in the pools. You jumped off your first diving board and can swim underwater so well now. You learned your address by heart, how to dial grandma's phone number, how to be a good cousin to baby Calvin and this Aaron will also be your last five months of preschool. You'll be off to kindergarten in the fall. My baby is gone. You hung onto those bottles even after you were 4 but finally you have given them up. You fought off pink eye. You discovered some fun movies-your favorites being Goonies, Avatar, Nightmare Before Christmas, Annie, ET and How to Train Your Dragon,-oh and Newsies. You sing Les Miserables at the top of your lungs with me in the car. You love gardening and this summer we planted some strawberries and a neat little tomato plant. You love watering your plants and clipping flowers for the house from our lilacs or tulips-or whatever flower you can find. You got a really fun scooter and have gotten so fast on it. You are learning to roller-skate as well. You went to your first light house, aquarium, and tried skiing. This year was also the first week you've been without mom and dad as we went to Maui and you did great. You also tried golf this year.

This is the year you decided you could walk across the street to your friend Avery's house all by yourself and ask if she wanted to play. Now the two of you go back and forth in between each other's houses.

You learned how to work the TV and DVD like a pro-although I would rather you didn't. You know your letters so well and how to spell small words. You have been going to Taekwondo and got to break boards and got your yellow belt this year. I especially loved how you learned to pray a real prayer-not just your memorized one but one where you thought of people you love in your life and prayed for them. One prayer looked like this: Dear Lord, please help Dad's back and help Grandpa's leg and thank you for dinner. Nicely done Aaron.  You went down the alpine slides and operated your own little go cart. You can run a half mile without stopping and look so determined while doing it. You went to your first Broadway play and sat perfectly through the entire show of Lion King and loved it.

I love you being 5!

Happy Birthday to my big 5 year old. I love you Aaron!

Last weekend of November

We had such a great little weekend.  Aaron and I went to the Thanksgiving Parade downtown on Friday.  Afterwards I took a class here! I love Barre3.  The Pearl district location is so great because they have childcare while you workout too. here   Aaron and I went to lunch at Olive Garden and then met his friend Max at open gym here.  The boys played for hours so Aaron went to bed early.  After work on Saturday I got to work on organizing my pictures on the computer and messing around with this new program for picture editing my Dad had installed on my computer.  Sunday Aaron and I had a yummy breakfast out and bike ride.  I got the lawn mowed and house cleaned.  Then I brought Aaron here while I saw the movie Burlesque.  It was such fun to go to a movie with my girlfriend while Aaron was having a ball playing.  We went home for yummy shrimp dinner, where I got to finish the movie  Eat Pray Love with Dave and early bedtime.

1. My Thanksgiving plans this year -will include spending the day before Thanksgiving with my mom and pop, uncle and aunt and dear sisters. We will sample the turkey and rolls a day early, play at the park and play some cards. In the morning sissy Shelly and I will do a long run and play with our boys then off to the mother in laws for the afternoon feast.

2. My favorite Thanksgiving was -well I think it will actually be this year. Aaron's 5 so he feeds and entertains himself which means I get to eat my meal hot. It feels like this year is going so well and we have so much to be thankful for and it's nice to get to spend quality time with both families this year.

3. My signature Thanksgiving dish is -cleaning the hosts house before and after the event and bringing wine. I don't like cooking but lovvvvvve eating.

4. My favorite Thanksgiving food is sweet potatoes with marshmallows on top and fresh cranberries-i like the really brightly colored foods.

5. Thanksgiving free association! mom's rolls, naps, togetherness, fresh made cranberry sauce, turkey, movies, sweet potatoes, chilly playtime in the park.

6. Thanksgiving is my most favorite holiday. It's like Christmas with all the delicious food and family time, but minus the commercialism. It is a time to stop and pause to be thankful for the things that I have .

7. I am thankful for a father that lived through a motorcycle wreck this summer, a funny little dog, celebrating 10 years married to my favorite person, my best friends three-Shelly, Mama, and Lauralea.

My Weekend

We are getting into the holiday spirit here at the Gander house.  This weekend I got a little tree for Calvin and Aaron.  Aaron went right to work putting his ornaments up.  We even went to Urban Outfitters to get him his traditional yearly ornament which was a ornament of Jean Simmons from Kiss.  Not my favorite choice but it made Aaron so happy.  He stared and stared at his new ornament.  Calvin on the other hand gets Elmo!  We went to the mall Sunday to see Santa but we didn't sit in his lap because we weren't dressed for pictures (in fact Aaron had on two different shoes which he thinks is fun to do because his friend Max does it) and the line was sooooooo long. We are listening to holiday music and because of the nasty weather playing bored games.  Aaron beat me at Sorry on Sunday.  We also enjoyed a couple movies-The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe-which Aaron loved, and A Christmas Story with Jim Carry.   My highlight of the weekend was probably a great yoga class on Sunday and watching Aaron during his lesson at gymnastics.  He is improving so much.  I can't wait to see how he does this next week with the preteam boys.  His coach Dale is amazing.  I really need to get some long runs in so I'm looking forward to the holiday this week. Shelly and I plan on a good 12 miler on Thanksgiving day.
