4th of July Fun

Kristin Armstrong wrote such an inspiring post today over at her blog-found here
http://milemarkers.runnersworld.com/2011/06/soulstice.html
I love how she asks us to challenge ourselves this summer.  It's true there's an attitude of slacking off that goes on around this time of year but in my home growing my Dad always asked us to work on a summer project.  I remember a specific project on horses feet.  The report had drawings and explanations on how to care for them etc.  I liked that Dad challenged us to not slack off all summer-although we did some of that too. This summer Aaron and I are reading more, going on more bike rides and spending more weekends together as a family. Summer is a time when he gets to see his brother and sister, sleep in and head to school whenever we wake up, and have lots of outside time.

Awkward and Awesome Thursdays

This blogger started this and I love her blog as well as the concept. http://www.thedaybookblog.com/2011/06/awkward-and-awesome-thursday_15.html

Lets start with:

Awesome
  • I found out Friday my sister is pregnant-hooray-a Valentines Baby is on the way.
  • We got a new xbox system-now I can play this dance game I've had my eye on.

  • Free haircuts for a year courtesy of our great hairdresser for watching her little Boston while she's on her honeymoon for the next couple of weeks.
  • It was sunny and nice here in rainy Oregon two whole days this week.  We don't expect too much out of June around here.
And Awkward
  • Attempted conversations with the step kids-hoping more of these conversations will turn into something I can put in the awesome column.
  • How white I am right now because of our lack of sun in Oregon

Fishing with my boys

On the ride up to the mountain we got an amazing strawberry milkshake at Burgerville.  Oh it was heaven. We swam in the pool and watched the Karate Kid together. What a golden Sunday family day we had.  This was Aaron's third time ever fishing.  He was tentative at first about reaching in and grabbing his worm but after a few minutes he was a pro and even put his worm on his own hook.  Dave was telling me his pole was hard to cast with but Aaron said, "I can do it Dad" and he did.  He held down the button just right and did great casting and reeling in over and over.  Dave did catch a nice little fish but we put him back, much to Aaron's dismay, as he was just too little. Aaron loved finding feathers and getting into the water.  It was pretty warm for early June on the mountain.  He got all his clothes wet within a half hour.

Clear Lake was a lake we hadn't been to on Mt Hood so it was fun do discover another area to play.  It was wonderful to lay back and relax and just listen to the breeze and water lapping at the shore.  I loved watching Aaron's face so focused as he puts marshmallows or worms on his hook.  Aaron mimics what ever his Dads says and does.  He says, " Dad I need a weight on my hook-although he doesn't know why.

Fill In the Blank Friday

1.   This weekend I'm       working and then watching my little guy perform his gymnastics routine at a little mini olympics his gym puts together.  After that we are headed up for a family night at the mountain. We'll go to a meeting for the resort as a favor to Bill but mostly we will be swimming, fishing and playing outside. I'm hoping to take lots of pictures and do some blogging.
2.  My last vacation was    just 4 months ago to Europe so I'm enjoying little close by getaways for now.

3.  My next vacation will be    Maui with the family this winter.

4.  My favorite way to relax is   with some wine and a comedy.

5.  When vacationing one should always     take lots of pictures.

6.  When vacationing one should never       try to work. It's a vacation!

7.  The best part about a vacation is      coming home to my little guy if he wasn't with us on vaca.

Hope you have a spectacular weekend!

Your first week of school-two years ago-and now your off to kindergarten

You started preschool right before you tunred three.  It was Dec 15th, 2008.  You had just been there two weeks before the Christmas conctert and you did so great with the songs.  It helped having Avery, your neighbor buddy, right next to you.

Teacher Mrs. Tonya

First day-I wish I had gotten a better picture but it was so dark and rainy and I was in a hurry.

And this was your first field trip-to the fire station

Summer Pillows-Thank you Pottery Barn

A great designer at Pottery Barn helped me pick up some things to make the place look more summery. Here's some pillows I picked up and how they look on the couch.  They didn't have the starfish one online to show you but it's so pretty and in the last picture of my couch.

Timberline 1/2

well it ended up being 14.2 miles-around Timothy Lake on Mt Hood this weekend. It was a tough race!  I didn't feel like I could get enough air the entire time and the terrain took some maneuvering. Shelly set a great pace and I definitely lagged behind as she found a good pack to run with.  I was so proud of her, as she placed 4th overall for women and 1st in her age group. Go Sister!

It was wonderful to have the sisters together for the weekend.  Lauralea watched the little guys while we ran. We all got to swim together, eat and read stories to the kids Saturday night and then Aaron got to swim twice more Sunday.  She really helped make it wonderful.  I got her the skin care line that I got for Shelly and myself as well as a cute tee and new socks as a thank you. We returned home very tired, Aaron even took a two hour nap, but very content with a weekend well spent!
